Grandpa's Famous Frozen Margarita Recipe (2024)

by Melissa 16 Comments

My Grandpa Jim’s Frozen Margarita Recipe is famous in our family. A traditional frosty frozen margarita, it’s so refreshing and perfect for sipping!

Frozen Margarita Recipe

My Grandpa Jim makes the best frozen margaritas. They are a family tradition whenever my grandma and grandpa host a BBQ or dinner at their house. Before we were old enough to have a real margarita, Grandpa would make us a non alcoholic version with a splash of grenadine!

How to Make a Frozen Margarita

  1. Start with a good quality blender. I used my Blendtec blender for these frozen margaritas. It makes the ice so pillowy and soft!
  2. Combine triple sec, tequila, Rosa’s Sweetened Lime Juice and ice in a blender and blend well.
  3. If you want to serve with a salted rim, use fresh limes to coat the rim of the glass, then dip rim of glass onto a small plate with coarse salt.
  4. Blend in small batches to keep margaritas from melting.

Thank you for the interesting recipe! Let me be honest, I still haven’t prepared alcohol co*cktails in my blender – I mostly used it for making smoothies and juices. But I love your recipe so much that I will definitely try it next weekend. I will let you know about the results!

I love an icy, cold drink, especially on a warm or hot day. I think drinks like this taste better when icy and frozen instead of just cold or chilled.

Just made this margarita for Cinco de Mayo for my husband and I. The tequila I substituted with Cazadores and instead of sweetened lime juice, I used 3 fresh limes. Kept everything else the same. It turned out so good! Now a days you see recipes using a mix and I hate that. Surprisingly it was difficult to find a recipe using Triple Sec. I was also surprised to see so many using simple syrup. Your recipe is very refreshing and takes me back to my dads margaritas growing up. One thing, I served mine in large margarita glasses and your proportions filled 2. I’d say 4 for tumblers.
